Fox Coppermoth Shoot
For the shoot, I wanted to play on the colours of the new Fox Coppermoth gear. The gear is black with copper logos, which on its own is very dark. I didn't want to take away from the darkness of the gear, but instead wanted to add colour using a background that pops. I'd seen photos from inside a local abandoned pool and have been saving the location for the right day, and this shoot was perfect for it.
The ambient light in the building was non-existant. I knew that in having no direct light source into the building, and a lack of ambient light that I'd need to use strobe lighting to bring the images to light. For the shoot, I used two Elinchrom D-Lite 4 heads paired with two Godox inverters as the was no power source on site.
I first started with the model standing roughly 5 metres from the graffiti wall to create some depth and lit up the model using an Elinchrom 70cm Deep Octobox, position roughly one and a half metres in front of the model and to their left hand side. I found that the balance between the subject and background was too great so I introduced in another light source to light up the back wall.

One of the change rooms in the pool had the remains of a bench and gold graffiti on the wall. This was the perfect backdrop to compliment the gear. The helmet had a copper patch on the top that I wanted to highlight in a photo and this seemed the perfect spot to do it. I simply got the model to tilt his head forward without looking too unnatural. I used a single light source, once again in front and to the side of the model. An Elinchrom 70cm Deep Softbox helped soften the light to create a natural look. There was ambient light coming through broken roof panels so the strobe helped overpower the sun to control the light as I liked. Paired with the Elinchrom Skyport HS transmitter I'm able to achieve higher shutter speeds to dim the ambient light in the room.
